Trucking School Website Design

Trucking School Websites are obviously built differently than a company website, but the goals are the same:

1) make the phone ring,

and

2) gather information online into a database so that potential CDL holders can be contacted - immediately or at a later date.

1-800-Trucking - Click Here to Request More InformationSpeaking of making the phone ring, one marketing strategy we really like and endorse is 1-800-TRUCKER. Obtaining this number allows you to have a nationally recognized phone number, while targeting only your local market. For example, if you lived in Atlanta, Georgia, the primary area codes would be 404, 770, and 678. If someone called 1-800-TRUCKER from any of these three area codes, their phone call would be re-directed to your phone number. Plus, you would be able to track how many calls actually come through this number. Moreover, people tend to use "800" even if the number they are looking at is 866 or 877 (as much as 50%).

We probably shouldn't call it a marketing strategy... as it is more of an enhancement to your existing marketing. With trucking schools, its all about local / geo targeted marketing. If you advertise 1-800-TRUCKER in your local market area, you'll have an advantage over your competitors that could be as strong or stronger than any SEO techniques on the web.

As stated, its all about your local marketing area... and one of the advantages that a trucking school website has, is the ability to monitor their local online competitors. If you are in a state that offers many CDL programs, then we suggest giving as much online information as possible. Most schools do not wish to give out much information. Forgive the pun, but this is "old school" thinking. If you have very little competition, then ok - give out just enough to make the phone ring, but the more information you can list on your site - even if it means giving out a sample CDL exam - then we suggest you give it. In the "web world", Content Is King.

The problem with having alot of content, is that many people don't read thoroughly. Hence, you should clearly state the most important points of each page in a "highlights" section that remains consistently in the same place on each page. In addition, you should also list the "highlights" of attending your CDL program clearly at the top of the home page.

There is one very important Search Engine Optimization technique that integrates with the above information. Although we do not consider this to be our "secret weapon", we do feel that is a bit too important to list here. Hence, we implement it when designing trucking school websites, and we offer it in our Trucking School SEO book. Suffice to say that we've gathered enough information about CDL program sites that we have a clear advantage over our competitors. Just as an example, we took over one trucking school website that was garnering about 10 applications a week. Within 6 months after the re-design of that site, they were accumulating, on average, 80+ per week.

Lastly, the visitors going to a trucking school website all have the same basic questions - how much does it cost? when do classes begin? what trucking companies pay for a CDL? etc. As stated, you want to give out information yet make the phone ring and gather applications. Hence, much of the information you place on your website will depend on what your competitors are offering. However, if you don't want to answer the basic questios, you can make your website the authority for gathering online CDL materials in your state, which will gather the confidence and name recognition needed to be competitive online. For example, you can offer resources on your site that no one else will offer such as the steps for pre-trip inspection in your state, or CDL Sample Tests, or Trucking Jargon... By doing this, you become the "authority" in your state on the topics you choose to address.

When we build a trucking school website, we look at your competition very closely. We will discuss the keywords / keyphrases that people in your geographic area will be searching. We have gathered enough statistics on those people searching for a trucking school, that we feel certain we can get you to the top of the search engines in your geographic location. In addition, if you offer online CDL training, we can implement the testing for both intranet and internet training.
